A nice family and restaurant story. We’re in Laveno Mombello, a village on Varese’s bank of Lake Maggiore. The Bassettis (dad Gianni and mum Elisabetta) have been running a 4-star hotel for years, with 11 recently-renovated rooms overlooking the lake. The food has always been good, thanks to Gianni Bassetti, who’s also a chef. Ever since he passed the ladle to his son Riccardo, however, the quality has improved even more and in 2017 they even got a Michelin star. The menu is agile, without too many items, favouring seasonality and what the market has to offer.
