Rodrigo Urraca’s “first life” saw him working as a journalist for about five years in Mexico City. However, his passion for the world of bartending soon became too strong to ignore, pushing him to take his first steps in learning and mastering the secrets behind the bar.

His career took off quickly—initially as a brand ambassador for Torres Brandy for six years, then as PR for Fifty Mils Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel, before moving on to the distribution of premium spirits in Mexico.

In 2019, he decided to become a partner at Handshake Speakeasy, alongside Marcos Di Battista and Erik Van Beek. The rise was meteoric—not only in the Americas’ 50 Best Bars ranking but, more impressively, in the World’s 50 Best Bars. In 2023, Handshake Speakeasy reached third place globally, and in 2024, in Madrid, it claimed the number one spot.
