Tony Mantuano is one of the most famous chefs in the United States and was certainly one of those who led the way for the success of Italian cuisine in America with his restaurant Spiaggia, opened in 1984. Indeed, Mantuano had spent the previous year in Italy, with a significant experience in very important restaurants such as Dal Pescatore in Canneto sull'Oglio or Da Romano in Viareggio.

Also thanks to all the lessons learnt in the field, the success of his first restaurant was immediate. Tony Mantuano, however, was not satisfied with having the best Italian restaurant in Chicago for the past thirty years and one of the best in the country, but continued to create new restaurants.

So together with other family members, since quite a few years ago Mantuano is one of the owners of Mangia Trattoria, a very classic Italian establishment in his hometown, Kenosha, Wisconsin. He’s the chef and owner of Terzo Piano, a Mediterranean restaurant located inside the Chicago Art Institute. He’s also the chef and patron at Bar Toma, a pizzeria with a family atmosphere in the centre of Chicago.

In November 2013 he also opened Lorenzo, a casual-elegant restaurant in Miami. The list of new inventions also includes, since a few months ago, the first restaurant not to be inspired by Italian cuisine, namely the River Roast, in River North, Chicago, dedicated to a contemporary take on popular American cuisine.

Mantuano
was proclaimed Best Chef in the Midwest in 2005 by the James Beard Foundation, a prize for which he also received many nominations. He’s also a very famous television star, the protagonist of two seasons of "Top Chef Masters", and the author of many cookery bestsellers. Among his greatest satisfactions as chef, however, there’s Barak Obama’s choice to celebrate his election as President in 2008 with a dinner at his very Spiaggia.
