The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014 is just around the corner, following the great success of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, whose second staging has barely concluded at Capella Singapore. The Grand Ballroom of the luxury resort saw chef David Thompson’s restaurant Nahm named The S.Pellegrino Asia’s Best Restaurant. 2013 winner Narisawa of Tokyo was ranked at number two on this year’s list, and was again named The S.Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Japan.

Suspense is on the increase as foodies and haute cuisine devotees from all around the world are waiting to find out if the Roca brothersEl Celler de Can Roca of Girona, Spain, will take back home the title of the S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant for the second consecutive year.

Meanwhile, a first taste of the 2014 event, an appetizer to whet the appetite of fine food aficionados, will be served on the 25th March, when the Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef for 2014 - successor of 2013 winner, Italian Nadia Santini - will be announced.

The list is compiled based on the result of the votes of the Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an eminent group of over 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry. The Academy comprises 26 separate regions around the world, each of which has 36 members, including a chairperson, and each member can cast seven votes. Of those seven, at least three votes must recognize restaurants outside of the academy member’s own region.

The panel in each region is made up of food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded ‘gastronomes’. Members list their choices in order of preference, based on their best restaurant experiences of the previous 18 months. There is no pre-determined check-list of criteria.
