We’ve already spoken abundantly about the interesting proprieties of the Voghiera Garlic PDO in general (with a Garlic cream recipe) and in particular with the work of the signature chef of the area of Ferrara, namely Maria Grazia Soncini of Capanna di Eraclio in Codigoro (Ferrara), who created for us a succulent (and still very contemporary) recipe: Spaghetti with Scardovari clams and Voghiera Garlic PDO (you can find it here).
Now there’s the fair, an important occasion during which you can discover the proprieties of this delicate and perfumed bulb “live”. The local authority of Voghiera (remember to add the “i”, to differ the village near Ferrara from that close to Pavia) organises this event from August 2nd to August 4th, together with the local Consorzio.
The traditional
Fiera dell'Aglio di Voghiera Dop takes place this year, for the 16th year in a row inside the Delizia di Belriguardo (Ferrara), a beautiful structure that for 3 days will be crowded with gastronomic stands and enriched with interesting activities such as cooking classes, sport events, workshops, markets, exhibitions and cultural competitions (you can download the complete programme in pdf format from this
There are many reasons why one should visit the gastronomic stands: of course traditional dishes in which the main ingredient is the Voghiera Garlic PDO will be prepared. You will be able to enjoy a nice menu outdoors, inside the courtyard of the Delizia Estense, with many stands with the farmers associated to the consortium, from whom you will be able to buy the freshly picked garlic. Besides, there will be a market focused on local typical products, with a wide space dedicated to the wines produced in the sands of the Este area, typical of the territory of Ferrara.
Besides the tastings, there will be many activities that will animate the entire three-day event. Among the highlights, on Saturday morning, there will be a moment dedicated to Italian consumers who will be able to discover the organoleptic and health-related properties of Italian garlic in general and of the Voghiera Garlic PDO in particular.

The Voghiera Garlic Pdo is available in trecce size from 500 grams to 2 kilos, in retino (100 to 500 g) and in sacco (1 to 5 kg)
In the afternoon, that same day, there will be
TrofAglio, a competition for historic cars which will start at 5 pm in piazza Pertini in Voghiera. On Sunday morning it will be the turn of
PedAgliando, a traditional bike-trip during which it will be possible to discover the territory and visit the garlic-producing farmers and the factories in which the Voghiera Garlic PDO is processed. During the afternoon, adults and children will be able to compete
for the title of
Garlic Masterchef.
